My male ram died last night just wanted to know how this will affect my female ram if I buy another male will she pair up with him or no longer be interested in anothe male. Is she ok on her own? Any advice

Sorry to hear that . Your female may of may not pair up with a new male, it's something you have to chance. She should also be totally ok on her own as long as she has an adventurous personality and there are other fish in the tank. All alone, not too sure about that one. My female was without other rams for a few weeks and she did very well but there were some tetras in the tank.

Yeah plenty of other fish in the tank but I would like another male but concerned they won't get on

imo she would be happier given the opportunity to pair up with another male...however it is a risky move. as you know, these fish live in breeding pairs. as above, it kind of depends on her personality. sounds silly but if she seems dispondent, try adding a male. keep a CLOSE eye on what happens though as if she does not wish to pair up, he may bully her. if this happens, you could add another female. of course this is only an option if you have space. why not wait for a few days and see how you think she is coping on her own?? no one knows your fish better than you!! i am sure you will be able to just 'tell' what would be best for her.

L :good:

I'd say she is independant anyway he did a lot of the chasing with her but I'll keep my eye on her and see how she does.

I bought a trio of Bolivans about a month back, and one mysteriously died last week, wasn't water parameters and i quarantined them until today in a seperate tank, bought another 2 to up the group to 4, and they have never seemed so happy, looks to be 2 males 2 females, hoping the smaller male is infact a female tho, if i were you i'd try to add more then 1 female!
