I think from your description and the way they are behaving, you should assume both are male, Final Dynazty
If the dorsal is longer then my females in both pictures, they are more then likely male. Both of those are full-grown adult females, and that's as long as their fins are going to get.
And Inchworm, are you actually asking me to take MORE pictures of my Gouramis I have no problem with that.....part of the fun of the hobby
I've never tried to take one from above, but I will give it a shot for ya?
If you think they are both females, they could be. It's possible that the aggression is due to size difference, although this is not as common with females as it is with males.
Gouramis are even aggressive to each other when they are just little fry. They are so aggressive that often the big ones get the food and the small ones die off. Sometimes the big ones even kill the small ones. It could be that yours have not gotten over this yet.
If you have another tank and are able to separate them, it would be a good idea to do it, at least until the small one gets equal to or close to the size of the other. If you can't separate them, at least be certain that the small one is getting her share of food. It's quite possible that they will get along better later on.
now i think there males i so confused. Ahh anyways I dont think i can seperate them just yet but i watch them and the little one is eatin his fare share.
