Ok...My male Sailfin Molly is still trying to mate with the female Sailfin that I *thought* was pregnant. (She looks a little more plump lately and has a light grey spot towards her anal fin...if she's preggers, it'll be about 2 weeks in).

Do Males keep trying to mate with Females, whether they're pregnant or not? Sounds like I've got a hyperactive male fish with a huge sex drive, I might wanna give him some more "playmates"...

All male livebearers fit into the catagory of
hyperactive male fish with a huge sex drive
. That is why it is recommended that you have at least 2 females per male. Otherwise the male will continually hound the female and may even stress her enough that she will abort the fry. Get him
some more "playmates"...
and he will be happier as will the female. HTH :)

Eeesh, well I guess it's another Sailfin Female or two for the tank. Right now I have 2 Female Sailfins, 1 Male Sailfin. 2 Female Balloons and 1 Male Balloon. I think the Balloons are still babies, they're all of MAYBE an inch in length...and the male sailfin has tried - countless times - to mate with the female balloons, but they'll have nothing to do with him... so eventually he gives up and starts chasing anything else female in the tank. (He's a horndog...I swear!)

Anywho, my tank is about at it's limit if you're taking into account 1 Inch of Fish / 1 Gallon of water. :( Is it going to be much of a problem if I add just 1 or 2 more female sailfins?

If you already have 2 females for him then i would only add one more if any. Perhaps add some hiding places/plants so the females can get away and at least make him search for them. It would give them some extra breathing time. HTH :)

i accually think that they could mate, and have balloon sailfins. i know regulare mollies can mate with either of them, so it makes since that they could too :/

It's not hyperactive, it's just a manly fish :)

All my males breed constantly, no matter how pregnant the mother is. (poor woman!)

haha.i know what you all were talking about.exept my females were
very aggressive with each other until i put in a male and they let him
`do his buisness'.
weird aint it.
Update.
i have one female preg balloon and her belly is flat and wide.
is this s sign that she is close???
