Hi

I've been trying to get guppy's established in my tank. A couple have died, due to natural causes (the breeding issue).

I was left with one male. He has been sat at the top of the tank for around 4 days. More or less in the same position. Seems to be shaking his head a little. Before this he did miss guppy company, as you could see he was lonely (no really!). He kept trying to make friends with the Platys (though they were having none of it). He still comes up and gets excited when its feeding time, and seems hungry, and eats as normal. I bought him two females to keep him company (lucky fellow), and he did interact with them a little. Just yesterday, he started swimming around towards the middle of the tank. He is swimming round, but he seems to be circuling round. Not 'investigating' like usual. His head is higher than his backside when he swims (diagonal in the water - if this makes sense). I also noticed a small mark of his side. It looks slightly red, like he's ahad scale loss. This is the first time I've noticed this (not previously when he was at the top), and I am very observant about changes in their behaviour (overly so).

Does anyone have any advice?

Thanks very much
Andy.

Oh yes!

Sorry, all water conditions are normal. I can't post exact stats, but they are all exactly as they should be (my local petshop does them for free). I looked on the colour chart, and they are all on the required amount - exactly on.

How long ago did you get the guppys, if its been recent (Past few days) he may just be having some trouble settling in, as for the red spot he may have some sort of disease he caught at the shop. I dont know though just thought I'd give u some hints.

I've had this guppy for 3-5 weeks. He's been great up until now.

The females were added after I started noticing him staying at the top of the tank.

It sounds like he has a bacterial infection with the red sores on the sides, is the belly red as that can be septicemia.
Is he fish laying on the gravel alot.

No, not at all.

He is very active, swimming round and round in medium sized circles (doesn't usually do this).

He's never been on the bottom at all. Just at the top at first, pretty stationary, now in the middle, swimming round (and round and round).

If I go to the tank, he comes to the glass for food. It's feeding time soon, and he will defo eat.

He only has one red sore on his left side, near to his side fin. Doesn't really look like a spot. It's a few 1-2mm long. I've only noticed this in the last couple of day's since he's come down from the top, and started swimming in circles.

Is his low body, high head significant at all?

Thanks
Andy.

You will need a bacterial med for the sore, as it could be an ulcer, any circling of white around it.
