My dwarf spit a few times, hasn't done it lately. He actually shot one over the tank rim onto the floor 
Also, if I hold a large piece of flake food in the tank he eats it right out of my fingers! If you get a gourami with more personality then usual, they can be more like pets then your personalityless other fish *cough*tetras*cough*
