No, you shouldnt keep female Betta with Males unless they are both ready to spawn.

i've successfully kept male and female Betta's together...but it was in a large tank.

Ive kept 2 fmeles with a male in a 15g tank and they just ignored each other.well until it was tea time lol.

No, males will not get bored without a female. Don't EVER put him in with a female unless for spawning purposes which you must must must do a lot of research and preparation for. Don't listen to these people who've put females and males together with "success". If you want tankmates give him an otto or snail or something thats not fancy/fin nipper like tetras
