my female got loose from her keeper and jumped in with my male, dragon, who i love very very much, and i came home to find his tail in shreds and him looking weak and terrified. i called my bf immediatly so he could bring over some stress coat he had, and i put the recommended dose in. he looks so bad and i'm in tears right now fearing for his life, so i would GREATLY appreciate any info on how i can save this poor guy.

THANK YOU VERY MUCH!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :-(

you would like to add melafix :) its about 5.50 in petsmart :)

hope he gets well real soon :)in the meanwhile put some kind of top on the part of the lady so she can jump back . GOOD LUCK!

i put the top on her just a couple minutes after i found the poor guy like that. hopefully petsmart, or one of our other stores sells that. i can't go tonight. it's 12:00AM. i sure hope he makes it through the night..... :-( :-( :-( :-(

thank you very much for helping

you are very welcome steph! :) yeah i kno .... 12...wonder if theres a place open right now...in mycountry one lps used to be 24 hs :) OH CHECK ON WALMART! :)

:( i just bought melafix for my otto,, but he couldnt make it :( (i bought it today at 6 :p not right now) do u still have school? go 2morro asap! i know you know that, just a little reminder :)

alright...thanks for all the help. dragon made it through the night and is even eating. (he ignored everything last night). he still isn't getting excited when i come to the cage like he normaly does, but it looks like he is slowly coming back.

i heard someone mention bettamax to use. which is better? melafix or bettamax? it doesn't matter price wise, so i wanna know which will most effectivly get him better. thanks

well, dragon is moving more, but is still traumatized. i bought bettamax. petco didn't have melafix. i'm gonna try and have my bf check up on him tomorrow since i'm gonna be leaving in about 30 minutes.

thanks again for all the help! :D

you could try putting a cloth over hte tank for now to keep the enviorment dim and let him have some rest without having to be worried about being attacked again.

he's still hiding in a corner, but when he does come out for a little bit, he is swimming alot more. almost like him old self again. don't wanna eat right now though. which is VERY unusual for him. i came home tonight expecting the worse from him. u wouldn't believe how happy i was to see him swim with more spunk. :D

aww! im so glad he is gettin better! what you can do, is level down the water so he can goes up and eat and don't have to swim a lot :), as far as i've been told, melafix is really really good! :) keep us updated!!!!!!!

he's not a sinker actually...i've noticed that about him. i see all my other betta's going to the bottom of the tank to nap, while he floats near the top when he sleeps. he's been like that for a while. so he doesn't make extra efforts to get to the top, cuz thats usually where he's at anyway. i don't have a filter in the tank (yet), so tomorrow i'm gonna try and change alot of the water. either that or let him borrow my 5gal's filter. hopefully he'll be eating soon

I hope he continues with a speedy recovery :)

My own bettas fins got very badly shredded a while back and it is very upsetting to see them look like that. He's healing very well though
Just add a small amount of a product like melafix as others have suggested, make sure to follow the directions ;) a lot of people recommend using a half dose for bettas and do regular water changes. It may take a while for you to see any improvement with his fins as the new tissue will be transparent but they should heal :D
