I have a pair of blue apples and gold apples and they breed like MAD. I have so many baby apple snails now. I have egg clusters all over the dang place. Big pink hardshelled clusters of eggs hanging all over underneath my tank hood. I have baby blues and baby golds. I hope to add a few to every one of my tanks when they get bigger.
Man,I know mustang said it,but that was expensive,$2 per snail. I got 50 on aquabid for $6,and now I have so many I can't see my rocks anymore. Pond snails got in there too,my ten gallon is basically a snail hatchery.
i knew it was expensive... but i dont care.. i have like $500 so i was like meh they look cool... might aswell get a couple... aquabid isnt an option living in canada... but o well... aslong as they breed like mad... id pay $10 each of they gonna gimme lotsa babies.. its all good.. no regrets
i think im gonna get some more snails.. not sure when or where... but snails sound cool...
about those apple snails... do u need 2 to breed or are they asexual ?
You need a pair of apple snails to breed them. They are definite female or male. I got lucky each time and got a pair of each. There's no way to tell unless you catch them mating,so I got extremely lucky.
LOL If you see one snail riding along on top of another just hitching a ride, buy them both. They do that, too. They play piggy back a few days before they actually mate.
ewww..... thats cool tho.. ill have to pick some up if i ever see em..
are pond snails ok too? i kno petcetera has pond snails.. can they tolerate tropical conditions... well i guess a betta in a vase isnt really tropical but ya know
Pond snails are one of the best breeders. They can even breed alone or with lots of them stuck together. Then they will kinda squirt the eggs insde a clear jelly to somewhere safe, for example under a plant leaf. If they won't find a better place, the eggthingy will be attached to glass. It's not easy to spot, being translucent and all.
Fast breeders and they can tolerate great variety of temperature and water parametres. They might manage even in brackish water.
Apple snails do breed alot, but tending their eggs is a bit more job. They attach the egg clusters above the surface and they need to be like that until the babies hatch, if you put it in the water before, the babies will drown. And if the cluster is in too dry, they will dry out
