Making Room For Plecos?

hi, i am getting the lemon BN's, which are commonly known as L144; however, the L144 is a different, very rare fish. i'm not very keen on the albino plecs personally.

i thought that the lemon BN's were L144 until recently, but in post 14 of this topic: http://www.planetcatfish.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=5&t=30967&start=0 the 2 different plec species are shown.

I'll definitely post pics when i get them (week tomorrow). :good: the guy who i'm getting them off only has them at 1.5cm, so i'm getting 10 for £20. :D

i hope you are happy with your common BN's, they are lovely little fish.

cheers :good:

LOL, the same old deliberation on L144's, yes they are quite right the 144 most commonly brought isn't actually a 'TRUE' L144 but to obtain the original then it will be like looking for some of the most rarer of plecs currently on the market if in fact it is actually something that exists and not all speculation.

Speculation regarding 144's and the true one isn't actually as nice as the ...shall we say 'false' lol. The 144 that you will obtaining is basically a colour morth of a common bristlenose or probably is now. Still the nicer looking of the 'commons' though so good choice :good:

Edited.. just to give a proper explanation better than i could lol....

This is not my dictation....

The L144 designation was given to a single abbarently colored male Ancistrus. It was bred with normal colored individuals of its species to develop the "true" L144 line. This Ancistrus species was believed to be different than the "Common" BN, Ancistrus cf. cirrhosus, and thought to never have made in out of Europe.

The current "L144" is thought to be a color variation of the Common BN, Ancistrus cf. cirrhosus, much like the albino & marble. Whether the coloration was developed through a similar color mutation to the "true" L144 or as a result of crossing between the Common BN & "true" L144 as has been speculated is unknown. The common belief is that most current fish sold as L144 are not the same as the original "true" L144.
