Any ideas on how to make the tank lids lockable?

which type? Monolux or duolux (hinged flaps) hoods?

You could glue a loop on the rim and then glue a bolt on the tank to keep it closed, out of interest, why do you need to bolt it shut?

heres a idea i had

its a little block on the black hinged hood with a hook catch on it on the side or front

heres a rubbish quick drawing

Its the twin flap ones, on the rio style. I want to be able to lock them because of my 2 year old, I caught him lifting one of the flaps today and rather than there be an accident to either him or the fish I thought it best try and lock the lid somehow. Its just the one tank he can get to if he moves the sofa, which is what he did.

Sorry truck he can undo bolts! unless I padlock it!

well you could have screws that you undo each time or like a wingnut bolt on the top but not sure with anything else

there is a couple of ways you could do this.

maybe this: http://www.onestepahead.com/catalog/product.jsp?productId=534479&parentCategoryId=85183&categoryId=85216&subCategoryId=86200

Or,

buy a Hasp an Staple (http://www.toolstation.com/images/library/stock/webbig/52923.jpg) then u could just double sided sticky tape it or glue it to the tank, it wont look good and may remove the coloured faciar when u remove it but least it will keep the tank and the children safe

I expect that you've considered this already but why not fit some child locks (such as you probably used on the kitchen cupboards, to keep the little one from the cleaning products?), some of them are self adhesive and can be easily removed later when (s)he grows up? readily available from most baby/toddler stores.
