Making A Sump/external Filtration

Assuming you're going to use a common or garden powerhead capable of pumping water up from the bucket to the tank, I'd just go with 25cm, or maybe 32cm PVC. I'd lay it out, and cut the PVC, but don't glue it... see if it works over the edge of the bath or something. Once you have the right lengths, then glue it together.

The thing to test is that the siphon is maintained even when the water line drops below the intake (i.e., a power cut), and restarts when the water goes back up.

Here is a link to the overflow system I created a few months back. This is the same thing as Petpirate was talking about.

Also if you need to know more about sumps (layouts plumbing etc). Try a search on this forum and also try asking the marine guys as they know heaps about sump systems.

Hope this helps.

Wow, thanks dylema. I'm sure that will deffinatly be useful.

HendrixTheOscar: the internal filters will be going in the bucket, if i go ahead with this ;)
