Hi

I have two musk turtles and i want to create a kind of shore for them in my tank, i was thinking of creating it using either glass or plastic and actually glueing it to the tank, has anyone ever done anything like this before is it possible? Is it easy to do? Your help would be much appreciated.

Cheers

you can glue a couple of glass strips to the sides of the tank about half way up. Then glue a sheet of glass to them (like a ledge) and another sheet from the edge and downwards into the tank (as a ramp). Smear some silicon onto the glass and cover with gravel or sand. Then fill the tank up so the water level is just below the shelf. The turtles can climb up the ramp and onto the shelf to come out of the water.
Use a glass silicon and away you go.

In my tank, I used a piece of glass cut in a triangle shape and siliconed it into the corner of the tank. I then cut a clear piece of hose pipe in half and siliconed it onto the edge just to make sure that they don't cut themselves. I also siliconed some rocks and a flat piece of mopani wood on top of the glass so that the basking section is entirely out of the water. It's pretty effective and it takes up hardly any swimming space. :good:
