Makes Me Sick...

Here is a picture of someone who is selling this bowl with 3 goldfish for 10.00

It makes me sick to see this. I only have a 29 gallon that is empty now that I could set up for them, but in the long run I won't be doing the fish any favors I guess. But what if someone buys them and leaves them in that bowl? Any suggestions?

Its best not to pay anything for the fish, as otherwise the owner will just be profitting from their ignorance. Those goldfish will be lucky if they last 6months in that tank, which is hardly anything considering common goldfish can easily live to over 20-30 years old given the right conditions (the oldest common goldfish was 47 years old).

Those goldfish are destined to die, and thousands of goldfish die in bowls like that every year, millions if you look at it on a worldwide scale. The only way you will ever improve things is by educating people about fish- tell them that it will improve the fishes life expectancy and health by years if you get it some filtration or even just a tank at least 10gallons large, or simple use dechlorinator and do regular once weekly water changes etc...Tell them how old goldfish can live when looked after properly, and that they aren't just some cheap disposable pet.
Some people don't want to know, but as long as you aren't too imposing with your knowledge and views, you will find that a lot of people are interested to know and learn more and that you may even in the end help save another goldfish from ending up in a bowl, or encourage someone to take their old bowl fish and put in it a nice deep pond etc .

We've had 2 common goldfish since my kids won them as prizes in October. They live in a 1 gal. "tank" with dechlorinated water and an airstone. No filter, but I change half of the water 2-3 times per week. So far so good.

You should really upgrade the tank as soon as you can, common goldfish are fish which can easily grow to over a foot long, a 1gallon tank is tiny and really isn't suitable for anything other than a single betta fish or a couple of shrimp or snails...

hmm thats is so bad for the fish. I would compare that to keeping a cat or dog in a wardrobe.

This is all new to us, but we are learning. We have a plan to move them to something larger.

You'd be suprised too on how long those fair fish live.. my brothers girlfriend won one 10 years ago and it got too big for their tank and ended up getting $60 for the fish. It ended up being some type of fantail or something, very pretty.

Well in march you can add common goldfish to a pond, so I would see if you can find an owner for them.

I work in a hotel, and the restaurant decided to keep a fish bowl with 2 fancy goldfish in them at the hostess stand - 1 of them died on valentines day in front of a big line up of guests.

The hostess must have been told off at least twice a day by people like us in the 1 month we had it. I already told them before hand not to do it - but they didn't listen..... Even i was told off by someone and i work at the front desk!
