Sadly this is all too often not true either. In the last couple of years my wife and I have paid good money for some very sick animals to get them the care they need including:Meeresstille said:I find most people will inform themselves before getting a dog, cat, hamster, birds, or reptiles about their needs and their care, but when it comes to fish it seems that they are being viewed as throw-away, easily replaced.....so sad!
2 grown bearded dragons kept in a 2' viv using a heatmat and light bulb only. They were adding calcium to their food but they were black from the lack of UV and also no evidence of live foods being given.
A crested gecko kept on nothing but baby food. It suffers from metabolic bone disease as a result of the diet not including calcium.
This is to only name 2 of the animals we have taken in from others over the years.
