sick of buying new sponges , and want your filter and sponges to last a long time.
instead of cleaning your tank and filter everytime you do a water change. just do a water change. dont always go out and buy new filters you know there is some benifacial bactiera thats stays in your sponges. ?

make sure to save $ by covering your intake pipes with a sponge this will save you lots i hope this helps.

I "think" they are referring to one of my pet peevs, you do NOT 'need' to change any filter media AT ALL - unless it is degrading.

Most if not all manufacturers like to make money from "aftersales" and a lot of manuals state that you should change the media monthly etc... (media being sponge in this case)
But the simple fact is that the media only NEEDS cleaning when it becomes clogged.... how long that is depends on many factors, such as size of tank, stock and so on.
It could be one week, could be six months.... only you will know ! (when the output drops off from the filter by a noticable amount)
Then you simply strip the filter and rinse it in used tank water - I use a bucket of water during a water change... NEVER EVER tap water, or the usefull bacteria will be killed instantly.

Theres no need whatsoever to use new media unless its falling apart - I have an internal filter with the same sponge for 10 YEARS !
