Evening all

I run a Fluval 206 external filter on my tank, and have done for around 4 years. It has recently become quite rattley so decided to buy a maintenance kit that includes new seals, impeller shaft and impeller cover. I also bought an aqua stop valve as that has new seals too.
Just out of interest, how often do you replace these kinds of parts on your filters? I read that Fluval recommend every year, which seams quite excessive!

I would be interested in your thoughts!

Wow thats interesting! I didnt know they recommend every year - I wonder if thats linked to warranties?

I've not ever had to change the seals and I've had a few of the Fluval FX5s and FX6s. I did have a few of them break on me though but usually sold them for parts.

I have Eheim classic canister filters that are over 30 years old and have not replaced any parts. I think i’d replace parts when the break, it may never happen. Hagen (Fluval) has always made a quality product. Just my thoughts.

Thanks both. I will try and find the literature I read to check.
I have read elsewhere someone changing the impeller when the filter got noisy which is where I got the idea.

I will do some more investigating…..!
