Maintained but Looks neglected Help

I have put a big piece of bog wood in my 5 foot tank,my water has obviously turned that lovely shade of weak tea,But my tank looks like its covered in a reddish dust my once beautifully green plants now look like underwater Halloween decorations I do regular water changes and I waft the plants to loosen the'dust? But it doesn't last ,Is there anything I can do besides removing the wood?

Sounds like it my be too soft, charcoal will help with the stained water. You sure it isn't brown algae on the plants instead of rotten wood?
