I have sent mature media by post to help members of this forum with good results. The bacteria survive quite happily.

The idea is a good one, get a massice water container & one of those huge pond filters (some of those are the size of dustbins), fill said filter with cheap sponge media, dose the tank with ammonia & Roberts your Mothers Brother.

The only drawback I can see is you may get raided by the feds when they realise how much ammonia you are using, it is a key ingredient in homemade explosives afterall.

:good:

Sounds like a wonderful idea - but how many people starting up a tank would know they needed it?

Good point... :good: ...your average 'newby' would only listen to their LFS i guess, who would dismiss the idea in favour of their bottle of 'filter start' and such.
One of the younger employee's at one of the local Maidenhead Aquatics does offer such a service, he offered to help me should i ever set-up a tank of considerable size. What he does is offer his services and advice to alot of professional rugby and football stars in this area, at weekends he uses the mature media he 'grows' at home to seed their impressive tanks in their impressive houses... making use of his mature media for healthy tanks and fish.

Terry.
