Hi all

I am looking to get some more fish has anyone used these people & what sort of service did you get from them?

www.discountfish.co.uk

Thanks Dipps

I've not seen them before. But would be interested.

Unfortunately their site means I would be unwilling to use them without hearing good things first.

It's badly designed, they aren't using their own payment system, which means either they're not making enough money to cover the cost and make it worthwhile. Or they've been refused a merchant account.

They've chosen colours making text hard to read, no clear navigation structure,

It's kind like a shop that couldn't be bothered to repaint the shop front, has no signs up, etc.

That said it's fairly cheap, so is worth finding out more.

I myself have never ordered fish BUT I have read mixed reviews on many online fish shops.

I hear that the UPS guy opens the package when they get to ur house to see if the fish is alive and if its not they take it back and get a new one shipped in, but ive heard that thats not the problem. The Problem is a few days later when they die in your tank. I have read countless posts on different sites that they order fish online and a few days later after flourishing in there tank, they wake up to a dead fish. I myself was thinking about buying some fish online but I think its sort of a waist of money unless your getting a unique fish hardly ever seen in a fish store. I usually just stick with what they have in the stores tho that way I dont have to pay 20$ or more for the shipping fee...for that shipping fee I could get 5 more fish at a fish store....

so in all, If there was a fish you REALLLY want then hey, why not try it once and if all goes good, then do it again but once I get a dead fish from online purchases it would most then likely be over for me and i would go back to the pet stores lol

what were you looking to order?

A) The name "Discount fish"

B) The non-merchant payment system.

C) They do dyed fish.

3 reasons why i'd never touch the place.

The stock is good quality, as they are using this supplier >> Aquascape Fish Importers Ltd.
I bought this suppliers stock from coventry stores with no problems, but have no idea on how they keep them.

I have never used them, but the postage is £20. thats why i dont order fish by mail order, i can get the fish i want locally cheaper, than using mail order.

Also that domain name is listed (by the looks of it) to a residential premises so it may be that they are running the business from home, I could not see an about page so again another reason I myself would not use them, I like to know a bit of history about a company I deal with. Is the website a registered business with companies house? just some of the things I would also look at before buying from them. Theres plenty of mail order companies in the UK for fish that are registered, I would rather use one of them if i had to order fish and could not get the ones i wanted locally.

If you do order from them please report back to us all what they are like.

That's quite an experience. If you have a local fish shop and want an uncommon fish then I bet you any money that they'd order it in for you and keep it in holding for a week or so whilst it gets over it's first move.

so reviving a two year old thread to put the website into the public domain again was a great idea too was it? The best advertising always comes from bad advertising.... ;p

Lol I didn't even notice :p

EDIT: Just took a quick look at their website regardless and not much looks to have changed. Their grammar is God awful, too.
