it's okay Mods - this isn't an lfs bashing - the opposite in fact.

Hey all, I took a trip to the garden centre at Poppleton near York today to check out the aquatic centre there for the first time.

I wasn't disappointed.

The choice of fish was excellant and it far out weighed any other lfs in my area for choice, health and vitality. All their fish looked young, fit, healthy and extreemly active. I'm so impressed I may well make it my lfs in future despite the 20 mile (approx) journey to get there.

I had a look at their plants too. They also looked healthy. There was a laminated guide attached to the tank so you can identify each plant which I thought was a good idea. I'm used to having to try and indentify plants myself.

There was a good choice of dry good too both branded and un-branded. I managed to get a 5 pack of fine sponges for my jewel that once cut to size will give me 10 sponges. They cost me just £3.29.

All in all if you are in the area or prepared to travel a bit I think it's well worth a trip, even if it's just to be nosey

I've got a maidenhead aquatics near to me too, and it's quite simply the best LFS i know. same experience every time, high quality healthy fish, reasonable prices, very helpful and knowledgeable staff and a wide selection of oddballs. gotta love the place. :good:

I am also from Birmingham, but havent been to the maidenhead aquatics, where abouts is it?

My nearest Maidenhead is in Titchfield and they're really good! They have a nice selection of marines and often get in some lovely bettas :D

We have 2 maidenhead stores near me and both seem to have healthy looking fish and very clean looking tanks and as you've said the staff are very helpful and not pushy at all.

Yep, same here. I have the Wembley store near me and I have never been disappointed for freshwater.

Not as good for marine, unfortunately. They have recently employed a girl as a marine specialist, so maybe there is hope for that.

In any case, marine-wise, I am very happy with the Aquatic Design Centre in London, so I'm not too bothered.
