Mac

Lol, And you know what, i'd pick the mac everytime,

IME the reason everyone is good at fixing pcs is because they've had so much practice fixing them, I've had both my iMac and my G4 notepad for 5 years now and they are still working as good as the day i brought them, In the same time period my pc has had to be reformatted 3 times and has had umteen problems and don't even get me started on viruses,

Also looking again at that comparison of the three main important components (memory, processor speed and hard drive capacity) they are pretty much equal, and if any the Mac is the slightly better of the two IMO,

^^ In the greatest respect...stick to fish :p From what you've said it's clearly better for you to have a mac, I don't mean the following as an insult. But macs are...simple/hard to mess up because they're so limited.

The memory on the mac is marginally higher...but I couldn't find what type or speed it was. Judging by the rest of the spec I would presume it's average-slow ram. Also it having more ram will only make a difference if the installed operating system is 64-bit. If it's 32-bit (I don't know too much about the types of operating system on a mac) then it'll only recognise 3GB anyways.

The processor speed isn't all you go on. The fact the Dell is an I3 means it's much much better.

And the hard drive capacity...well 1 the hard drive on the Dell is faster and 2 it wouldn't cost you around $200 to upgrade the hard drive to a larger one!

Plus actually the graphics card makes a massive difference even for normal use, it's pretty much the limiting factor in most PCs. And the alienware laptop is running a card that is well below par in comparison.

With the correct anti-virus and anti malware installed, aswell as a bit of logic a PC doesn't need reformatting anymore than a mac. The only reason macs don't need reformatting is cause you can't install anything on them! And equally virus makers and malware/adware makers just don't bother making them for the mac, it just isn't worth their time for the limited audience.

IMO both MAC and PC have problems and neither is as good as the other, though they do have an advantage on some things over the other, personally id get PC but thats just me.

the only thing i find useful from apple is the ipod thats it, iphone as well but itouch and ipad huge waste of $ imo.

The only problems PC have are caused somewhere between the chair and the keyboard! lol. So long as you keep up to date with what the most suitable anti-virus and anti-malware is they're just as safe as a mac. But with the added benefits of being easy/cheap to upgrade and being compatible with any software you want.

There is only 1 person I'd ever suggest buy a mac, and that's graphics designers as I hear that macs are particularly good for this. However you can probabaly easily build/buy an equivalent PC for less... so I probabaly wouldn't even suggest them then. However not being a graphics designer I wouldn't know why macs are meant to be so good for it.

And just for the record... I do loads of downloading/internet browsing etc and I haven't had a virus in years n years n years.

to be fair when we had norton (which alot of people get osld with there pc's) we got viruses all the time!

but now i know quite a bit more about computers and updated to a great anti spyware/malware/virus called spyware dr

never had any problems since :)

Norton is dire. Even AVG free is better than that. But atm the best one you can get is ESET, too many people started using AVG so the odd one or two viruses started getting though. (I work for an IT support company so this is the kinda thing we have to stay on top of).
And malware wise we suggest malware bytes, but there are equivalents that do as good a job. It isn't really a 'category leader' in the malware/adware removing/defening field.

Anyways... I've really gotta stop posting here. I feel quite bad for taking it so so off topic. Sorry OP  :flowers:

Okay, in my opinion, Macs are better than PC's. This is why I believe this:

Our school loans out macbook laptops from 2004. The laptop was almost faster than the PC I am using right now, and this is a 2007 I believe. The Macbooks we loan out still have a battery life of 3 hours. That's from 2004. I looked up a Dell the other day that was $1199 and it's battery life was 2 hours and 55 minutes. That's a 2010 model. Mac's now have a 10 hour battery life. My brother and sister both have PC's and their batteries suck. My sis laptop finally bit the dust a couple weeks ago and now she has a Macbook Pro. She is very happy and satisfied with it. They have an amazing operating system, and are very user friendly. I plan on doing a lot of movie editing, and iMovie (comes with the mac) is an amazing software, and it's just the beginning. They have things like Final Cut Pro which is also a fantastic product. They laptops are aesthetically pleasing, and just LOOK professional, and they inside too. As previously stated, macs last FOREVER. Our school loans out 15 of the laptops, all of which have never crashed or needed to be fixed. A girl at work has one from 2004 as well, and hers is still kicking, and she doesn't plan on replacing it anytime soon. A teacher at my school has been buying macs since they first came out. His media room at school has 20 iMacs, and many older apple computers from the early 2000's and he told me he has never, ever had a mac crash on him. But teachers come to him all the time saying their PC's have broken or crashed.

Here is why I am buying one:
-Last forever (not literally)
-Look nice, not a big old bulky piece of poop
-iMovie
-Nice camera and audio recorder
-Green Screening
-Fast
-Good warranty
-Free iPod Touch 3G when purchased before the 7th of Sep.
-100 dollars off because I am a student
-Free wireless all in one printer
-Easy to use

That's why I am buying a Mac. I have looked into plenty of PC's, alienware, dell (which now owns alienware), gateway, Compaq, Toshiba, you name it.

not only do they both have problems but it also depends majorly on preferences as well, not to mention it will be (if we tried) impossible to turn you over to a PC as your already dead set on a Mac,just as i am with PCs and most likely 101 as well lol.

ill stop posting now and leave as the dog who wants to please everyone

I used a mac for web design class once.
Slowest hunk of poop that I'd ever used. Want to right-click? Nope, can't do that. Want to cut and paste? Nope, can't do that. Want to do anything? Hold on a minute, I've frozen.
As for viruses, I've got for around two years now on windows with no virus protection at all, I scan every two months and I'm fine. Why? Because I know what I'm doing.
Macs don't 'break' as much, because they're made so you can't break them. If you break your PC you were delving in somewhere you shouldn't have been.
Little Timmy can't smash the window with a baseball if you tie him to a chair now, can he?

How old was the Mac and what was the hardware like? Sure, if it was an old computer with non-impressive hardware, then what can you do about it? Especially since it was a class, they aren't always known for being super fast considering the schools can't afford anything nice. You can too copy and paste! Did you even actually try? You highlight and on the top bar there is an option for copy and paste. Just like there is on any PC laptop. My PC gets loads of viruses, and I do not do anything wrong on them. They just simply get viruses. Does that mean that I am inept in my computer skills? No, it means that my PC gets viruses, plain and simple. I scan once a week, and my software takes them off and I am on my way.

When you say "break" a PC, do you mean it flat out crashes on you? Because if so, you do not have to "delve into somewhere you shouldn't have been". Our teachers have their PC's break down all the time. They turn it on, and it's just a black screen. Nothing else. Or, the hardware literally fails and it doesn't do anything. Our PC at home started turning itself off randomly a couple years ago. There were no virus, just bad parts. When you spend 600 to 800 bucks on a laptop, it's not going to be made extremely well, because you get what you pay for. When you spend 1400 bucks on one, it's going to be sturdy, and fast. I was looking a PC a couple weeks ago taht was 1200 dollars. Someone left a comment say, I really like this PC, it has great battery life. It lasts 2 hours and 55 minutes! - In my OP, thats pathetic. All the new Mac's have a battery life of 10 hours. That's a huge difference.

What exactly do you mean? I am still in highschool. Then I am heading off to College, which I believe to be Huntington University in Indiana.

2009 22" iMacs.
Quite frankly, yes you are getting viruses because you are inept at computing. Viruses don't just 'appear'. If you are getting viruses, you are doing something wrong.
Teachers break EVERYTHING. School PCs break because they are school PCs, cheapest nastiest ones they could find that are in constant use by computer beginners who probably think sticking magnetized screwdrivers inside is funny and cool.
I also said CUT and past, not COPY and paste.
Your home PC died because it's power supply died. This happens with pretty much all electrical equipment, if you look on the label somewhere it tells you how long it's meant to last.

If you can't use a computer, get a mac, that's just how it is. Only exception is if you want the simplicity for media related junk.

You should have heard us roasting a computer science student on my boyfriends course when he said he had a mac. And I quote 'I've got it because it's simple to use' we were like... you're a computer science student and have a mac cause it's simple to use

Anyhoo, just to offer some useful advice to krib. I suggest you switch to Eset antivirus and install malware bytes on your PC. Eset will stop you getting the viruses in the first place and malware bytes stops malware...tbh most computers are infected with malware not viruses. This may be why you're having a recurring problem. It's like treating a human viral infection with antibiotics... people regularly come to my boyfriend with PCs that are 'completely and utterly broken'/'covered in viruses'. 90% of the time it's covered in malware from illegal/dodgey downloads...
Malware tends to do things like open random pop-ups etc.
