To me, It looks like maybe a common livefood, a Mosquito Larvae. I'm sure it is. Hanging from top is also common for them since they don't have gills I think. They breath air from the top and do sit till they are disturbed.

Yep that is what it is! Thank you! Now I am not nearly as freaked out haha ^^() What a relief. Still too bad the other molly died... I took her straight home and did what you're supposed too but I guess the stress was too much.

i absoultely think the same. mosquito larvae..and in not way would have caused the death of the fish..something else was amiss with it sorry to say. keep an eye on the surviving one and maybe tell the LFS that it died..they may give you credit, but i wouldnt realistically want to tempt fate and get another fish from that store.
as far as the larvae, most fish eat these guys like crazy. was probably scooped out of the tank when they caught the fish in the store. dont keep it or you will have a mosquito buzzing about.
