We recently got a Lyretail Molly and she has been passive
Today we noticed a growth at the anus, it's a white ball now roughly the size of a BB, maybe a little smaller, I have done some looking around and have not found anything on this, does anyone have an idea what it could be?

Sadly I can't at the current time, won't have a camera on hand that can take a clear picture till sometime tomorrow afternoon

might have found a camera that took a good enough pic

it's the white ball at the anus, we're not sure cause of the lighting if the surface of the ball are clear or a minor fuzziness, it also looks as if the anus is expanded and this is protruding from it

Hmm from your description I'd say she's giving birth but from the picture she's not pregnant so I don't know what this is but if you have a quarantine tank it may be a good idea to move her there.

actually you may be right, gf just found a baby near the baby grass so may be at the end of the birthing
she did not look pregnant at all though o_O

Well do you know how old she is? The younger they are the thinner they'll stay because they won't hold as many babies. And FYI livebearers think they're babies taste good.

no idea on age, we have 6/7 babies, one accident in the gravel, I assume the mollies, and swords we have in the main tank got the rest, this is the fifth breeding we've had and the first time we've been around to see it, every other time they have them between 3am and 6am in the divider or baby net, we have found a baby net is larger and less stressful, we just have to watch it every hour or so. a few days from now these guys and gals will get to go to the baby tank we have, assuming water conditions are identical

btw thank you "this old spouse" and "man of fish" for helping ^_^

Oh, no! So sorry for your loss. My goodness. This is actually the first chance I've had to see the photo, and it doesn't appear to be a fry emerging. It just may be some kind of parasite, so watch the other fish closely. Again, so sorry this had to happen.
