Lucky, the Tail-less Wonder

Well, here's my train of thought at the time being....
Since I just discovered him @ WM yesterday.... and I know that he came in on their shipment yesterday one of 2 things must have happened.

either:
1) something happened to him in transit so the cut/rip is still fresh an NO regrowth has come in yet or
2) he was born tail-less

BUT.. if this had just happened to him very recently, he'd be going ballistic. He swims perfectly fine (although a tail's not needed for swimming really, in this case i guess) and he doesn't seem to be bothered by it in the least. He does try to wag it when he's flaring at himself, just like my regular boys do, but it doesn't bother him.

My guess is that he was born "special"....
but we shall see!

Okay, pics coming momentarily!!

Well, folks - seeing it in this light with the reflection of the flash on his scales, I'm guessing he's been this way his whole life.
Here we go:

Wow, it really does look like he was born without a tail..
Could you possibly post a closeup of just the tail area? I know you love playing with that high quality camera.. ;)

Edit :: I'm dumb and can't spell.

He's actually really pretty, it just takes awhile for the eyes to get used to not seeing a tail there. He's so cute  Born without his tail or not, he was headed for death if you hadn't got him more than likely.

Well, I can't really get any better photos than what I have.
I was right up to the glass - and he doesn't stay still for very long AND he's getting REALLY pissed at me for flashing in his face.
I'll try again tomorrow.

Oh well. Guess I'll wait and see what other ppl think! :dunno:

You know, this camera is wonderful and everything, but MAN...
does it get the detail.
it picks up the nastiest looking stuff on these fish - like on their faces and stuff - things you don't ever see in real life. YUCK.

Thank god you can't see that nasty stuff when you look at them face to face.

If I don't set my camera on macro mode, I can't get a good picture of them, but mine's the same way about picking up lots of detail. I think that is one reason Draco always looks odd in pictures to me. His scales stand out more because of his coloring, he looks a lot more blended looking at him in person LOL.

What camera do you use?

Wow, he is a beautiful betta, with or without his tail. It's great that you rescued him, now he'll be pampered like the rest of your bettas!

I'm going to say it's a birth defect, although I've never seen anything like it in my life! Also, there's no rot on his anal or dorsal. Poor little guy, he's obviously had to struggle from a very tender age. Glad he found you,BM. You know everyone else would have just  'ed him and put him back.

I just adore him.

I wish he could talk.
I'd sit down with him for hours so he could tell me the story of how he got this way.
Or... maybe i don't want to know. :/
He's adorable. I am really glad you were there today to see and then rescue him. He deserves a great home. I hope he was born that way. I really wouldn't like to think of someone doing that to him, it makes me want to go find them and chop off something of theirs!
