Depends on the fish you want.

I would love a peaceful community tank, but then I also want a more active tank, something other than the usual tetras, etc. So I voted for two. But if the fish you want are all compatible than one larger tank would be great. :)

If you opt for the 2 smaller tanks you should connect them with a water bridge, this would give more stable water chemistry, more swimming space and look really cool! :)

Depending on the other dimensions I would rather have the bigger tank, just have alot more stocking options for the fish I like (New world cichlids).

One big tank.

Less maintenance, more stocking options, overall takes up less space in your house.

I am recovering from the condition of Multi Tank Syndrome.

Had 8 tanks dotted around the house in the Summer, down to one big tank plus a small 40 litre. So much more manageable and I actually have the time to sit down and admire the fish!

I'd always go for 2 tanks rather than one large, lots of fish arent compatable so more tanks gives you more choice of fish you can keep.

I say get two 4 foot tanks over one 6 or 7 foot. Like CFC says lots of fish aren't compatible, so you can get different things.
