I thoguht about the air too, but I do have a small airstone in the middle back of my main planted area.
Filtration is a hanging, and a fuval (404, 403??) canister, there is very good movement of the water at the bottom from this, so much that the corner where it sucks up from (it also has a drop for surface water) I had to put gravel instead of the rocks, same with the back of the tank where the water comes out.
I heard about the poor breeding of them creating genetic defects that make them very weak at fighting anything off. but I thought I got good ones, as the lfs quarentiened them for a month.
Mine have been and still are very active at all hours. playing tag, and seaming to do laps, its quite entertaining.
I always thought I had my tank set up perfect. but I guess not.
This morning I accounted for all fish left, and they all looked healthy, and scattered real fast when I dropped the flake food can and it hit the edge of the tank. and they are all eating (dropped some frozen tubiflex for them).
