well, i had two bibrons gecko, both young, one more so than the other. they were sharing a tank until i felt it necessary to separate them. i hadn't seen the smaller one much for the last two days, but, as they are nocturnal, and my cat spends much of her time planted in front of the lizard tank, i just chalked it up to hiding at the time i passed by and thought little of it.
due to a few crickets in the tank being mature and chirping, at night we have been moving the tank into the spare room so we can sleep without the chirping waking us. last night i came home from work as my bf was coming out of the spare room, commenting on how it really smelled in there. i went in to check it out, figured it was just the crickets (anyone with reptiles who keeps large quantities of circkets about, knows what i'm talking about with the smell). i picked up the gecko tank to move it out to the living room for the evening and noticed the smell was actually comign from the tank, and it smelled worse than the usual cricket/damp paper towel/lizard waste smell. i put the tank on the stand and went off to do other things. later that night i was going to go in and do a little cleaning. the smell was over powering. i grabbed a light and looked into the lizard hides. there, head just out of the opening of the hide, was the smaller gecko, very much dead (and looked to have been for a few days). he didn't look skinny or dehydrated, but the eyes had sunken into the head. i did find what appeared to be a large regurgiated cricket. i'm wondering if maybe the cricket was just too big and he couldn't digest it. i feel awful. i had to pull his little body out and wrap it up for disposal. since the remaining gecko is quite a bit larger, i won't worry about the last larger cricket in there. but from now on, i will only buy smaller crickets.
RIP little buddy. I hadn't even sexed and named the little cutie yet, or gotten the chance to take some photographs................
