hi, ok in the last 3 days i have lost two fish, no sign of even a head or anything.

they both did look ill in the days before they went missing, but who is eating them??
i only have a small tank and although there are a few hiding places i can still see everywhere to choeck.

i now.. have
1 platy 3 guppies 3 danios 2 cory julii

make that 3 fish! :(

Small fish bodies dissolve very rapidly in water- and most fish will help the matter along by snacking on a dead tankmate.

What we need to sort out is why are they dying? Could you post us the size of your tank, and your readings of ammonia and nitrites? Also any symptoms you noticed on the fish.

the other platie died this morning
i have:

10 gallon tank
nitrates 0 ammonia 0
ph 7.5
symptoms, gasping and staying at the top for about 2 days before dying
my pump is working fine theres plenty or air bubbles comming out still, tried adding oxygen tablets too but didn't help. managed to get one dead fish out b4 it went missing, and theres no signs of anything :S just looks totally normal ..but dead..

if it was oxygen starvation they would be lying still near the bottom wot kind of filltration method are you using

how often do ya clean the tank and do you use water treatment if so which one

well the tank has been up and running since boxing day and finnished cycling a week ago, which is when i got the fish.
it looks really clean still, did a couple of water changes 20% and have syphoned some gravel that was getting fuzzy.

i have .. Nutrafin aqua plus conditioner and used ammo lock once in the beginning and once 2 days ago in an attempt to save some dying ones before i bought the ammonia test.

how many fish you got left cos it sounds to me as though you need to start again, when i start a new set up ive always just put the water in added the right amount of tap safe put in a fluval filter and oxygen pump and heater in and put the fish in the same day never get any problems. when i clean them out i use a gravel filter and filter gravel till about 50% of the water is out, then srub clean the inside of the glass and rocks, ornaments or whatever you have, clean the filter sponge and filter top back up and just a a little bit more tap safe whatever you need for 50% of your water. And all the time the fish are still in the tank, i carnt remember the last time i got a prob.

Do you have water stats in ammonia, nitrite, nitrate, and ph.
If you used the fish to cycle the tank with it takes it's toll on them, known fish to get through a cycle then die, as there immune system shuts down causing desease.

They look fine to me.

That nitrate reading you keep posting- is that actually nitrItes? And what is the reading for nitrAtes?

The tank was rather overstocked with its full load of 2 platies, 3 guppies, 4 danios and 2 cories, for a 10 gallon tank; I wonder if this was anything to do with it; that there was some sort of mini-spike that the tests have failed to pick up on. Groping in the dark a bit here, I'm afraid.
