My gorgeous Thor died this evening :-( When I searched for this picture, I didn't even recognize him  he's been sick for over a month :/

Julie and I have been racking our brains and we have a theory that is not good news. We're thinking TB :X It really makes sense with the symptoms I've been having, that it's only bettas (I work with them seperately from the other fish) and it even leaves a trail. Beam was in the closet, I moved him to the living room, him and the three other living room bettas died. Still back in the closet was Duncan, he moves to the fishroom, month later dead, then Thor who was in the fishroom all along dies too.

Of course I'll do lots of research, but from what we've read so far, healthy fish who've been exposed can harbor it, and they do share basters, my hands, tubing, etc. Do I treat just the fish with symptoms? None now btw...or should I sterilize and/or treat the lot?

Thanks for the help :/

Thor :-(

I'm so sorry Sorrell. :-( I really don't know what to suggest... I usually don't try using meds unless necessary, so I'd be hesitent to treat all your fish if they are not showing any symptoms of illness. I think sterilizing the siphons, nets, etc would be a good idea though, since TB is contagious. :/ Is it cureable?

Good luck.

Hi Sorrell :)

I'm so sorry to learn about the trouble your beautiful fish are having. :byebye:

But please think things through before you come to such a dire conclusion as fish TB. There are so many possible symptoms that it is not an easy thing to diagnose. However, until you find out otherwise, do wear gloves and whatever else you need to protect yourself from this contagious disease.

I'm truly hoping you turn out to be wrong in this case.

This is Thor earlier today, this picture (and the real life image) is disturbing to me...I apologize to anyone else who feels the same. I just want to show the extent of the situation. When you look at this you can see the wasted away body and swollen head...looks like TB to me :/ I agree inch, I pray it isn't, but man...

He looks so awful

I'm sorry you are losing your bettas. I really think it is a parasite problem. You might try foods that contain antibiotics in it. If any more show symptoms, I know a treatment. I hope things work out for you.

theres some liquid stuff you can by that sterilizes nets, i dont know if you can use it for your hands but they use it where i work (thats if your thinking of the transmitting through 2nd and 3rd party medias is what is happening)

Do you have other fish still infected? What kinds of meds and treatment have you used on this?

I thought the only way to be sure it's TB was to bring it to a vet to have lab work done? :dunno:

It's such a rare thing.......I hope that's not it, Sorrell. :/

Sorry for your loss. Thor was SUCH a beautiful fish. :-(

If her bettas have parasites, it would be more important to use a medication to kill the parisites. An antibiotic would be useful for secondary infection, but wouldn't kill the parasite.

Sorrell, I'm sorry to hear this. Was this happening at all before we went to the betta show? Cause your picture sure looks like my plakak from the show did when he died. :/

The first loss was while I was at the betta show. I have treated with all sorts of things from weak to strong, salt, bettamax, spectrogram, tetracycline, macaryn II...everything I try seems to make it worse rather then better. When I treat them with the heavy duty stuff, it tends to speed the process. When I don't treat, it takes about a month from "normal" to dead.

I don't think it's parasites becasue they continue to eat and poop normally until the last two to three days. The look progressively skinnier as the time goes on and then on the last week, they quit swimming, the head begins to swell, quit eating, and then they die. The last week is the worst, as you can see from the picture, I have to physically move the containers to see if they are even still alive.

Sounds like what happened to my plakat....and what's happening to my cracked out mustard gas. *sigh* Let me know if you figure it out.

Sorry forgot to answer Inch's question...no I don't have any others showing signs right now -_-
