My sajica pair laid eggs last saturday night, and have been guarding them very well. I was expecting them to hatch on tuesday/wednesday, however when I got back from work yesterday, I noticed that about half of them were gone, and I could see no fry. By 10pm last night, all the eggs were gone, and still no fry. I presume they must have failed to hatch them this time (it was their first try). Is that normal, or am I just missing the fry?
I'm about to move the pair to a new tank, in about a week, so I just want to make sure before I move them.

From what i've learned...it is not uncommon for fish to loose there first batch of egg/fry.....My cons failed there first time..and the female just ate the eggs...Dont worry though...if they tryed and failed they will try again...HIH :D

they were indeed probably eaten...
But do they still guard a spot in the tank? They can immediately move the fry when they hatched...
They don't like being watched, so maybe they put them somewhere else where you can't see them.
I would wait until they are normally free swimming, then you should see them ofcourse...

yes, they are still guarding the area the eggs were in, so maybe that is what happened? I'll give it a few more days and see what happens

My discus sometimes move the wigglers after they hatch. Then they let them get a little bigger so they can have a bigger snack when they go freeswimming. Some times it takes several spawns before they get it right.

 Yeah, I'm sure they'll get it right sonner or later

Aha, I just spotted 2 babys wriggling in the gravel!!!!!!!! :D :D :D
Maybe there's more, hopefully!!!!! :D

Congrats!
But be careful what you wish for...
My convicts' first batch is around 200 fry!

I wish I lived in a warmer climate, so I could put them in my pond :)
must be cool to go swimming in a convict pond :p

Bugger, the Clown loaches got 'em!!! Mum and Dad have both started swimming round the tank again now, so I presume they're all gone. Oh well, I'll be moving them to a new tank next week, so maybe they'll have better luck there!!
