One of my nicest Denison Barbs… I’ve never sexed them, but I called it a her… she was big and beautiful… I thought probably full of eggs… no signs of something wrong, other than she was fat… water perfect, rest of the fish all look good… maybe she had a growth inside, rather than eggs… even dead she was still beautiful, but lost her “rose line” but still pretty golds and silver colors… I don’t usually sweat it too much if I lose a fish… but that one was unexpected, as she looked so healthy, ate and swam normally

I’ve been there myself, Magnum Man. I don’t really have many fish, but I keep reptiles and amphibians- lots of them. Sometimes, they have health issues that just can’t be resolved. Other times, a seemingly healthy animal dies unexpectedly.
Just yesterday, I lost one of my original breeder Stimson’s pythons. He had been healthy, active, feeding- and then dead. I was both shocked and crushed. People who keep more traditional pets may have a difficult time understanding this, but losing herps and fish can be like losing an old friend, too.
