a few weeks ago i lost a harlequin rasbora as its whole tail dissapeared within a day, i thought that since it was a new group he/she was the runt of the gang and got picked on. today another has exactly the same symptoms. i havent seen anyone chasing it and witihin a few hours it has become ill. the only other problems in the tank at the moment is what i think is slime disease on a silver tip tetra who doesnt have any of the signs that this one does.

water stats are ammonia and nitrite 0 nitrate 5 ph 6.4 temp 24c

heres some pics

i know the fish is going to die and theres nothing i can do now it is at this stage but i am looking for some clue as to what it is. ive had fish with fin rot before but never like this and never as rapid, any clues would be greatly appreciated

Wow he is in a sorry state.
I've had the same thing happen to one of my harleys years ago, sadly he died, the med I used didn't do a thing.
If no flicking and rubbing I would add a bacterial med.
Can you issolate him.

Dear me, poor little thing. I would put it out its misery to be honest.
I had a harlequin with 'similar' problems, but not that bad. Did it go like almost a grey silver colour on the body prior to this ?
Mine started to have problems with fin erosion, which I treated with protozin which seemed to fix it. Unfortunately I must have stopped early as it came back and the fish died :(

I agree spooky my ended up with the whole tail gone in hours.
Felt awful poor thing.
You can get some bad batches of harleys, had them die of open mouths and some were thin, this is years back though.

we decided it was best to euthanise the fish late last night. i have never had a fish go like this before except harlequins. the poor guy was very thin and the smallest in the group. it happened so quickly. oh well hopefully no one else will go the same way

One of mine was skinny never let my husband get fish without me.
Did the fish go thin due to not eating.
If he was really skinny you could be looking at internal parasites, fish tb, old age.

Any fish doing long stringy white poo.

R.I.P. Bless him love harleys

i dont know if he was eating really, its hard to tell them apart. ive only had that batch a few months so wouldnt imagine it was old age. i guess it'll just be a mystery
