a tiny update here.. when we put him in the water it looked like we saw some of the white spots come off almost instantly and he looks better already -- can it work that fast? I know it's not "cured" but to take some effect that fast.

I had a betta get a speck of dust on his nose and it seemed to plaster to him. It hung on him for days! I actually saw him nudge the speck of dust, otherwise I would've thought it was fungus.

I wouldn't doubt if he had dust or something and the salt water helped dislodge it. It truly was a salt "bath".

Glad to know it wasn't anything serious

nope, nothing like that at all -- he's acting as fozzy-like as any other day I've had him, shy, and hungry. he's a big baby and likes to hide out, with the occaisional swim up real fast and flare at me and then swim away, until I bring out the food ok.. here are the pictures. see if you see anything more on here.

DOH - Yup, that's some pretty nasty ick.
Pretty much any ick med will work, but I have had REALLY good luck with Maracide.

does salt and raised temp. work good? he looks good this morning, granted I'll have to check a little closer once I wake up a little more, but we saw what looked like the white spots falling off of him right after we put him in the new water last night!

Also, a couple people have suggested it may be velvet.. anyone had any experience with that? I can't find any pictures that show it good enough to compare.

If it's velvet - you'd know by shining a flashlight down on him. If he looks like he was spray painted w/gold paint he's got velvet. I think it's ick though. Salt and increased temps are great, but you for sure want to add meds too.

sounds good, I'll have to stop at petco, or walmart (I'm poor, very poor, and walmart tends to have best prices on the meds) and see what I can find. what are some good meds to look for? incase they dont have just one.
