So I have bought quite a large piece of aquarium wood. I should've asked before buying it but was wondering what kind of wood it is.

It looks like bogwood and will eventually sink but at the moment it likes to float unless it's pinned down.

Any ideas?

Difficult to say without a picture.

Pretty much all wood will float naturally unless it's been presoaked. All you can do for the moment is what you've already done - weigh it down with rocks until it soaks up enough water to sink of its own accord.

It will eventually once it becomes saturated with water throughout, its a common thing with wood to not sink straight away just weigh it down with something for a couple of weeks and it should be fine :good:

Yeah just thought it was odd that I have much much smaller pieces that i pre soaked for two weeks too and they sit at the bottom fine where as this piece needs to be weighed down.

Was wondering if there were different types of bogwood?

Is the large one lying down coming toward the front of the tank on the left hand side. A little hard to see but I have driftwood at the top and a piece of bogwood on the right and a stone holding it down.

My link

Looks like your average bogwood to me, I will sink eventually, may take a while to saturate that huge lump though :hyper:

ahh true, it does seem to be taking a while to sink / maybe i should've soaked it for longer than two weeks.

Thanks for the help. Much appreciated :)

That IS bogwood, somtimes it takes ages to sink, other times it does it straight away.
