Hi guys, looking to start a cichlid tank but not sure which breeds are safe to have together I'm willing to learn a lot but also know I have a lot to learn.. Lol. My tank is in the process of a fishless cycle so not in a rush to buy.. My tank is a juwel relied 600 which is 63 litres I was wondering on some advice of what I could have in that tank, current setup is a sculptured background sand a few rocks and some fake plants.

Hi
You could go for a Neolamprologus multifasciatus

These are the smallest cichlids, here is a website that has all the information you need.

http://www.gcca.net/fom/Neolamprologus_multifasciatus.htm

Quoted from website: "Care

Neolamprologus multifasciatus is easy to maintain and thrives in small tanks. I kept and bred six individuals in a three-gallon Eclipse tank with no problems, but a ten gallon tank would probably have been a better choice."

I think i have seen these in Viscum but not too sure. They are very easy to breed all you really need is atleast a minimum of 6, and you could probably keep other fish with them that are not too big to eat.
Hope this helps :)

As previous poster suggested or may be Apistogrammars (New World)

Your tank is too small for Malawi's or most other Tanganyikan's

Yes, you do have a small tank, however, cichlids have enough personality to fill that tank and then some. As stated before, small shelldwelling cichlids from Lake Tanganyika is really your only option as far as African cichlids go. There are a few you have a choice of, but you will probably be only able to keep a handful of these in your tank. In my opinion, best to stick with a species only tank. Here is a list to get you started on researching...

Neolamprologus brevis

Neolamprologus multifasciatus

Lamprologus ocellatus

Lamprologus stappersii
