Looking to add new more interesting fish

Hey thanks Freddyk,
Worked all weekend and did not have time to check my post until now. The Severums, that is this fish below right?

The reason I am asking is because the website I looked them up on said all the pictures were severums, but one had convict as the label, are they the same?

Blue Acara’s would work too huh? What is the minimum you would recommend?

By the way, what if I added a few Balas to that mix I posted a few posts up (#27), will Severums and acaras get along with bala sharks. My wife loves to watch our balas chase each other around.

The little reading I have done agrees with your comment about Sajica's. Apparently they like to be left alone in their caves, and my clowns are very nosy, so probably should nix them.

Thanks again for your input

There are many strains of Severum these days, but in general they are larger, taller bodied, and rounder shaped then convicts.

I can't see two pairs of Sevs being a problem either way. Acara vary in aggression, it's hard to know what you're going to get, but if you bring them all up together you can most likely do two pairs of these as well. Is this a 6 ft. tank?

When aiming to get pairs it's usually best to get a bunch of juveniles and let them grow up together and pair off to get the most compatible fish, it just means having patience for them to grow.

Yes it is a 6 foot tank, and you are saying that the Sevs and the Acara will be ok with some bala sharks?

Yes, I think getting them small would be a good idea. But when they get bigger will they tend to turn on the other fish (clowns, cats, sharks, pleco)? Or does the larger tank help to prevent that?

A bunch of juveniles… of both the seve and acara? Bunch….how many, 4-6 each?

Thanks again for the education, it is much appreciated.

They should end up ignoring the rest of your fish, except when they interfere, in which case they'll just be pushed around a bit. I say 'should' because in the end we can't fully predict these fish and some end up more aggressive then others. Because you want all the other fish in the tank as well, I'd suggest going with 5ish of one of them and letting them enjoy the space. They do take a long time to reach their larger sizes and you can probably get away with both, however.
