hey everyone i want redo my tank. its a 30 gallon. my plans are to trun it to a african tank. but i want small ones with one or two bigger ones any ideas on waht to do?

Some mbuna with maybe a convict? Convicts can get pretty big but then again I just gave the LFS my 6inch Mbuna that I have had for the last 2 years so... Or you could get a really aggressive small green terror or jack or a small oscar until they outgrow the tank.

most mbunas are green eaters and the convict is a meat eater. The convict also gets real mean ( yes meaner than africans) and will run the tank easly. Also alot of people frown on mixing central-south americans with africans. In a 30 gallon you could go with a pair of brichardi's or some shell dwellers. That tank is too small for mbunas , i take it its 30 inches long. Also an oscar in that tank is a big nono. they get too big real fast.

Do you want fish from Malawi or fish from Tanganyika? Or others such as kribs? Why dont you go throught he species list for each lake, and see if there are ones you like in there?

THis is a good link for figuring out what can go in a tank your size, and gives you examples for different areas:

i like the Malawi tank set up but can i keep my little EB johanni?

maybe some German Blue Rams and Bolivian rams with a keyhole or Blue Acara. that would be pretty much maxed out. the rams only grow 3-4 nich and the keyhole or acara would grow 6-8...but they are Central/South American Cichlids and aren't as aggresive...

Daffodil pulchers. 1 male to 1 or 2 females. Petricola synos for bottom feeders. Just add caves.
