hi my sunset platie had a bunch of fry last night and im wondering how im supposed to look after them? i have them atm in a breeder box, but was wondering what they ate, any specefic conditions that i must keep them in etc\

thanks!

you can hatch some baby brine shrimp.... I just managed to hatch my first batch today.. If i can do it, anyone can do it !!!!!!! They devoured them happily..

you can also take some flake food and crush it up in a plastic bag until its a powder.

can also buy liquid fry food, or fry bites at the pet store...

Boil an egg and give the fry a teensy bit of mashed up yolk.

Also.. just a side note :) They should be fed at least 3 times a day, I hear 5 or 6 times a day is ideal.. and feed them the most well rounded nutritious meals for the first couple of feedings, and something fattening like the baby brine shrimp for the last meal of the day....

I've only had my fry about 2wks, so I am still learning as well..... Water quality is very important for the little guys, so watch that carefully as they tend to miss a lot of food and have it rot...

thanks a heap :) gonna go feed them now

Congratulations! They're lovely little things, aren't they?

I did the same, kept my platy fry in a breeder box for the first few weeks (then I had to let them out as we were going on holiday and I could only get someone to feed the tank every other day, so they had to find their own food in the main tank). I fed them First Bite fry food, cleaned the bottom of the breeder box very gently with a toothbrush pushing uneaten food out through the little holes, and very gently poured a bit of fresh water in through the top. They did fine and are now (at 6 weeks) tackling ordinary flakes bigger than themselves, and eating algae off the plants. A couple seem to have got eaten while I was away- but then another batch has been born, so I'm not complaining. I'm just aiming at rearing the fittest of each batch.
