Lookie What I Got For Christmas

How do you keep the tank warm?

umm... the air around the tank??? what else do you use for something that size lol, its impractical to use a heater and cram the tank any more. as it is i had to stop using the filter and am actually taking it out because the flow is way to strong for anything. i wouldnt recommend using that filter in anything less than a 5 gal tank due to it.

hmm... it makes me wonder if this is going to start that whole "proper betta keeping argueing".

as for everyone else, thank you for commenting on the boy. he really is gorgeos. i really dont like the "patriotic" red, white and blue (ooks green with proper lighting) color on bettas, but how his goes it is stunning.

i've said it before and i'll say it again: if your house is pretty much always between 73 and 78 degrees, then you don't need a heater. that's the perfect tropical temperature range; tanks with lighted hoods will even run a few degrees warmer than room temperature. larger water volumes also retain heat pretty well, so any temperature fluctuations will be quite gradual for a 3g or larger.

What size did you say the tank is?

I do regularly hang cloth plants off the top of the Betta filters to deflect the currents. I do this not because I have issues with filter vs no filter, but because I am busy and lazy and want to give the fish every chance, if I am slow with water changes.

Yeas, color wise he looks more SEAsian patriotic. They are quite nice imo. ASnd he is a lovely example. Where did you gf get him?

i didnt say, but the tank is about 1.75 gallons (and that's with gravel, filter and plant displacement). the tank is shallow and long which like because that is the fish's preference anyways. he is very happy in there, but i'm sure anything is better than the betta cup he was in :D. i have the 2 plants in front of the filter flow to try to limit it. i may try to hang some from the top as well to slow it down. i dont mind doing 100% water changes, but the filter would make life so much easier. room temp drops to about 72 at night and stays between 75 and 78 during the day. thats just room temp. i use the same temp range for my bigger tropical tanks that have a heater so i felt its good that way. she got him from petsmart. they had that blue stuff in the water to cut down the stress level of the fish, so she didnt se the blue until he got into clear water. he is still gorgeous. i personally think he looks bettr with the blue than if he was white where his blue is.

thanks for the compliment on him :D.

1.75 usg is plenty, especially in a long low tank.

Nice find. Go PetSmart! Perhaps a SE Asian breeding that went off color a bit. I can seldom really tell the blue from the green in lots of Bettas.
