I have a 10 gallon with the fishies listed below, (+ one male crown betta) which has no rock in it, just glass beads. I picked up some aquarium rock yesterday, but I don't know how to put it in, since I will have to remove all fish ect. and I was told to never do 100% water changes  . I thought maybe I could save half of the old water in a bucket, while I was cleaning it, then return it when I was done so It would only be a 50% water change :dunno: ..is this acceptable?

This may not be correct, but I would first rinse out the rock and then just add it in. I'd probably use my hand and put handfulls in at a time, nice and slow to make sure not to stress out your fish.

I wouldn't change the water at all.

It shouldn't be a big deal.

Hope that helps!

well, i would do that, but their are rocks already in there that I want on top of the aquarium rocks (like flat marbles) lol

Can you just take them out first?

how? with a net?
Use your hands - they're marbles right? Can you pick them up, or just move them over while you are adding the gravel?

ok, well, i'm going for it, i tried to just take out the marbles with the net, and add the rock, but the bottom thing that the rock goes on got disheveled, and a fish got underneath, so i removed the fish to bowls of the tank water, and took out the bottom. It was crazy filled with fish poop! (i don't have a vaccum thingy) so i turned the filter back on, and i'm letting it take some of it out. When the water clears again, i'll put it all back, add the new rock, and put the fish back in their own water...*wish me luck*

okay, after much juggling i did it, i need a fish poop eater..lol The water is a little cloudy even though i did a 30% water change..i'm learning slowly but surely...next project is dechlorinator..and a vaccum thingy any brand suggestions?

Just get a siphon with a penis pump looking thing on the end of it. The water should clear up once all of the debris settles, but you still need to get it out of there. Let the debris settle and do a good vacuum/water change a few times over the next few days.

Everything should be fine!
