Longest Resident

I had two lovely buenos aires tetras for 7+ years - while I was in college and for years after. I rarely ever cleaned their tank, but they somehow managed to survive everything. I killed them when I decided it would be a good idea to get them a new tank and just dumped them in. They did okay for a few weeks, but "mysteriously" died one day.

I had NO idea about cycling.
Poor little fellas.
:/

Makes me wonder how many more years they'd have been around if I had known....

My 3 year old danios (2 of them)...actually, they might be 4 now. They sure are tuff! Lived in a 5 1/2 gallon untill this December. The first year or so I did a total clean out on the tank every 3 months. Stupid lfs owner knows nothing...
Now they are both living in a 50 gallon goldfish tank with 7 other danios.

I had a set of matched Jack Dempsey's for 3+ years when the female decided to attack the heater causing it to malfunction "boiling" Her, him and about 200 fry that were 3/4" long.

I bought Sam, my Betta, 3 years and 4 months ago at a Walmart. He looks old in the face but still acts as lively and healthy as ever.

(I feel really weird saying publicly that my fish looks old in the face... )

My bnose catfish male, Dyson is the oldest resident of my tank. The others in the 30gal are relatively new (due to a disaster I had with the tank in January)....I have had Dyson since December 2003.

Other long surviving fish are my cichlids which I have had since March 2004. They have never been sick with anything. No ich, no finrot, no suicides, no deaths AT ALL.

my betta Gus ..im thinking 5 years i got him old ..mabye six...someone at walmart said he was 2 or 3 years old..he had to die though if he was alive i know hed be 6 or 7 ..i pamper mine most of them live for 1-2 at the least i only put them in one gallon tanks and they are always happy,i only had 2 die at 6 months or less( one week wonder and AmyI)

I have a male Kribensis that I got as an adult from a lfs about 6 years ago. He's lived through everything, including a 4-month period while our house was being built that he was basically completely neglected (I actually was quite upset - I thought everything in the tank had died in the midst of all the chaos). He's survived 4 mates (on his 5th now) and has many offspring to carry on those "durable" genes. One of his mates was an albino - they produced all albino offspring, which surprised me - some of the most breathtakingly gorgeous Kribs I have ever seen. I kept one male and tried to breed him, but he killed all his potential mates and ultimately died without ever breeding. :( At any rate, Dad is still going strong, making too many babies for me to keep. Anybody want some Kribs...??

my male bolvian ram is nearing 4 years old and still going strong, i say this because 3-4 years old is the average life span of a Bolivian Ram,
my keyhole pair ive had for 5 years,(well,my uncle had a breeding pair of keyholes, and saved me two of the fry for when i got a fish tank 2 years after they were born)
and the rest of the fish now i've had since the begining of last year :)
