I bought a long tentacle anenome today and waqs wondering how its suppose to be placed in the reef tank...

I tried holding onto some live rock but it wont stay, its just wants to float...

Please Advise!!!!!!!!!!!!

Thank you

anemone's tend to find their own place in the tank I hope you have decent MH lighting and stable water peramiters because they are very delicate creaturs. Tbh it might be worth taking him back if you dont know how to care for him. best bet is place him on the sand or a rock and let him find his own place.

It wants to float?

Well, all you can do is allow the anemone to find it's own place. Do not move the anemone unless absolutely necessary; such as if it's stuck to a powerhead.

Have to agree with James here. Meso, I appreciate the confidence you must have in your abilities but an anemone is NOT a beginner fish. Even expert aquarists struggle to care for them properly and keep them alive, let alone get them to flourish. Slow down and start with some easier livestock as you get used to marine systems.

Thanks guys... he finally found a spot... I am going to continue to care for it, I am persistent and I lust for knowledge.. Thanks for your knowledgeable insight on this topic.. I will keep track of its progression...

;)

I would however like to know what would be the best to treat and feed this invert.. My LFS recommended Krill... as a food source..

I also have Colony Polyp that I also purchased as a starter coral... I have read that this should be fed micro-plankton or baby brine shrimp.

What are some optimal additives for my tank, trace elements etc.. I should use.

I would like some input and suggestions on this and what type of filter media would be optimal for my canister filter for my reef aquarium.

Thank you all for taking your time to share your knowledge.

Hope you have read the anemone FAQ in the inverts section ;)

As for feeding, depends on the size, chopped or whole krill is a good food source. Sometimes brine/mysis/chopped krill is required if the nem is really small. Silversides or chopped up fish is good too if its a little bigger.

More important to nem keeping is high lighting, good flow, exceptionally clean water, and exceptional major water chemistry (good temp, sg, pH, calc, alk, mg). Trace elements, dont worry about them. Worry about calcium, alkalinity, and magnesium (all 3 of which if correct will result in a good pH). I suggest you read many, many, many articles on reef chemistry

Sorry it took so long for the pics.....

THanks..

And whats the lighting like?

It looks healthy... for now

thats on the VERY limited side for lighting for anenome keeping.. I have a 75 gallon US
I have 2 X 150 MH and 260watts of PC... and I believe and pls let someone correct me.. that I being at 10 watts per gallon is "good" for anenome most anenome keeping... And I still can't get one of my two anenome in the "healthy zone", and I feel so bad about it... I've even moved everything in my tank just for him today.

I feel that he looks good now.. but as time goes by weeks and months... with that lighting.... well I don't have a good feeling about this, but who knows.
how old is your setup?

My tank has been cycling for over a year..

Thats quite a big nem!! If appearance isnt deceiving then I would be feeding him bits of chopped fish or the packs of frozen fish (thawed out ofc). Probably best to start with smaller meals though whilst he settles in.

A great thing to think about whilst you feed your nem is how you like to feed yourself... Do you like it if people shove food into your mouth when you aren't ready or do you like to have it placed in your hands? ^^ Same goes for a nem
