Long Overdue?

So...it is now officially four weeks since I brought her home. No matter when she got pregnant, she should definitely be having them by now.

She's looking even worse. She's still eating a little, but when you view her from the top, all of her scales are sticking out. She's so huge! I gave her some more peas today just to be safe. She just stays in this one little area all of the time. She can no longer swim downwards without effort, she just basically floats up there all of the time.

What else is there I can do on a limited budget?

broad spec medication on the off chance she's ill and pregnant?

After looking at pictures of illnesses and on the advice of someone on another forum, I'm suspecting she may have dropsy. The fact that, if she does, and has lived this long is just a miracle. I gave her a salt bath today, but there was no change. It's probably too late for her, either way. When she dies, I'll just have to cut her open and see what we've got going on in there.

would it be to sick to ask for photos? I'm very interested. I hope she lives though. I've never delt with dropsy. (Prob emailing pics would be best not sure how others would take it, I have warped curiosity)

I'm going to go ahead and post a top-shot of her while she's still alive so you can see just how fat she is:

This was while I was getting ready to move her to the salt bath.

OH MY GOD
That fish truly is a behemoth!

I hope you manage to save her - did it take a few of you to lift her or a crane perhaps???

I have a similar guppy female though its not that big but does still look too big if you know what I mean?
I will be watching this thread with interest and hoping for the best.

wishing you well,
Jaarus

good lord... I guess she stopped useing the "I'm not fat, I'm big boned" excuse... lol "more of me to love"?

Eff.

Let me know how it goes. I hope she does well and we don't fish-topsy pics, she's lovely and it would be a shame to loose her!

It would definitely be a shame considering I only brought home two trios.

I gave her a second salt bath today for longer, but I think it's a losing battle. Although she did appear less...bulged...she still can't swim properly and spends most of her time on her head at the bottom of the tank. This started a day or two ago.

It may be kinder to let her go.

However, if it were me, I would keep treating her. With a broad spec anti-biotic and with the salt baths, but as we see from Little Blue, I don't give up til I know they are either a: major suffering (not eating, obvious pain) or b: quite dead.

If Little Blue can do it, so can Big Momma :p I'd keep trying, but that's just me :) Good luck, she's a fighter!

Ahhh I hope she pulls thru aswell :good:

She passed away around 4pm today. Autopsy revealed no babies, just a giant fluid sack. It was most definitely dropsy.
