Hi, don't wish to be morbid but I recently bought a Common Pleco. They can live 20 - 25 years. I am 52........ If it is still alive when I am 72 I am going to state in my will that it must be cared for. Anybody else likely to be outlived by their fish? Just wondered. :)

This thead made me smile :) It is a consideration for anyone with animals thought... My in-laws keep telling us we have to inherit their evil parrot because it will probably out live them.
As a newcomer I am pleased to have kept my fish alive for 3 months! :fun:

Needed that laugh after a day like this.

I have thought about this actualy because I keep thinking that it's going to take me forever to get the osphronemus goramy I want... and then they have lived to over 60!!!

I'm looking forward to the prospect of some of my plecs being around for another 15 years or more and some of my other catfish living to up to 30 years old easily.... I just hope i don't go insane and start talking to them like humans

I have a few plecs that I got from my dad a couple of years back when he went into a nursing home for medical reasons. He got the plecs a few years before that from a neighbor who moved. This neighbor passed away a couple years after he moved. So I do own a few fish that have outlived their owner.

I sure hope my fish don't outlive me, most of them are bettas!

Thanks for the replies, I knew it must apply to others too. Love the idea of the evil parrot! :)
