ok.. so i havent thought a thing of it until now.. it seems like i am having my long finned zebra danios die... every week... it starts with one not eating just slowly staying at the top then next day its dead.. its a 20 gallon tank.. with some corys and a snail.. 4 cory cats.. 6 long finned zebra danio..

i do water changes once a week usually about every 5 days. any ideas? the tank is cycled.. took filter media from my main tank.. tank has been up i would say 3 months.. everyone else is doing fine..

the only two things that come to mind are maybe the food.. im feeding wardleys essential tropicals? see any problems there? then my other idea was the danio eating my cory food... i dont see why that would be a problem but that food is Hikari sinking waffers... so im open to what you guys think.. maybe im just getting some bad fish from the pet store? i think i have had a total of 4 die.. its been spaced about every two to three weeks..

Have any fish gone thin or bent spines.
Any laboured breathing, or flicking and rubbing.
Check the gills over to see if there pale with excess mucas on them, or red and inflamed.
What it look like when the fish go to the toilet.
Do the fish look pale or dark in colour..
Any fish hiding away or being lethagic.
Is there enough aeration in the tank.

nope they look healthy.. no bent spines..

laboured breathing only on the fish that looks sick.. no flicking or rubbing.. gills look fine. no extra musuc..plenty of aeration

Water stats are fine though would like a nitrate reading.
Is there enough aeration in the tank.
If you have lost quite a few fish to this looking at bacterial to parasite.
Going to be hard if the fish were flicking or darting would be easier which one to say.

ok.. so i really watched my fish closely.. the ones that have died have a caved in stomach.. they are definitely the small ones.. they swim at the top.. just sitting.. the one looked like it was keeping its gills open. earlier it was picking at food then tonight it didnt even look... my nitrate is 0 ppm just check 2 min ago. maybe some kind of internal parasite in the danio? right now i have 3 left and they are the healthy looking ones.. they ate fine tonight.. im not seeing any flicking or darting.. ive lost one specie of fish.. plenty of aeration.. i have a bubble wall across the back and plenty of water disturbance at the top.

Concaved stomach yes can mean internal parasites.Other signs are.Going thin or bloating up.Red inflamed or large anus.White stringy poo, or worm prutruding from the anus.Fish can get internal flukes as well as external. You will need jungal parasite clear or clout.Do a search on internal parasite meds in your country.

Hi, can I add ask about the bent spines? Yesterday I lost my biggest danio (Big Dan) and he DID have a bent spine ... he started hanging out at the top of the tank and over the course of two days it appeared that he developed scoliosis. His last morning he appeared confused and was not interested in eating/wasn't aware it was feeding time. He had a definite "hunch" in his back!

He also appeared to have a tumor on his right side (?)

After work, we couldn't find him and searched and searched. Not in the filter, not in the decor. I got agressive searching and found him in the gravel, dead.

I removed the body and did a 50% water change. Upon closer examination, it appears that his side now had a wound which was covered with mucous, as was a red spot on his tail. I'm not sure if the other fish were feeding on the red area or if that was the way he was decomposing from the hours after death?

Any ideas?
