I saw these in lfs on sunday but the main puffer man wasnt there. Has anyone ever had one, they are fresh water and come from singapore and seemed fairly aggressive. They looked a bit like twinspot puffers but with an upturned mouth.

I love Fishstores completely made up names for fish :)

"upturned mouth" sounds like it could be either:

Monotrete Baileyi (Tetraodon Baileyi)
Monotrete Palembangensis
Monotrete Suvattii (Tetraodon Suvattii)
or
Tetraodon miurus

all of which dont play well with others and are freshwater Puffers.

I think it's likely it would be Monotrete barbatus. Long Face puffer is probably the name for it on the import lists.

He said upturned mouth though, and that doesnt really look like an upturned mouth, where the Congo etc do have them as does Miurus...

There's no photo of it on the site?

M. cambodgiensis / M. barbatus is of the same design as the rest of those fishes. But it has a longer nose.

I did a google for that puffer and its a possibility also :)

I would agree with M. cambodgiensis/barbatus. I bought one this weekend.

Cool, have you got a photo? These are a relatively new import to the UK.
Jelly has Photos as do I, hes offline now, i don't want to post photos of his fish and spoil his thread/thunder so you will have to wait until he posts tonight......

I wasn't after one of these originally, Myself and kewskills went up to Natural World to get a fangs puffer. It was mis I'Ded in the shop. I didn't really look at the fish properly until I got home and realised it was far from a Fangs (which I am after so if anyone knows where I can get one please let me know.) we also bought a number of Dwarf P's from another store.

I haven't got any pics but I will take some this evening. Kewskill you can post the pics if you think they are of reasonable quality. To be honest my photography skills are zero.

Still confused.

In the thread text or in another area.

Thanks

in your text type the above statement removing the dots and replacing "path" with the path to the file on a website, webspace or other.

you will end up with something like

[...img]http://www.darkentity.myby.co.uk/tank/31102007/Spotted Climbing Perch_01.jpg[/img]

then remove the dots in the first img tag
