Local Sand For My Aquarium?

I recently got local sand (New Jersey) for my aquariums. Is this safe to put in the tanks? Will it look as attractive as the whiter caribbean sand?

What do you mean, like from the beach? Beach sand is rarely a good idea to use. Beaches are nature's protein skimmer and lots of nasty stuff ends up in the sand of natural beaches, from normal ocean organics to nasty pollutants. I for one wouldn't use it.
