lobsters

Righty I now know that my LFS dude can get me one for around £15, i'm not completely sure which species but I'm pretty sure it's one of the smaller ones. They would come in at aorund 4" .

Would it beable to live in harmony with other fish including bottom dwellers or not.

Or whats the minuim size one can live in with over invertebrates only, so red claw crabs and shrimp. I was thinking of getting another 10gallon for invertebrates then a 25gallon (ish) for a tropical fish set up.

Also how many could I keep together?

Cheers.
I wouldn't keep any crayfish with other inverts and I would be wary keeping them with fish smaller than 5-6 inches. If it's a bigger cray, then I would say 10-12 inches or more for the larger fish. Crays are predatory and scavangers. They'll eat anything dead or alive they can get, including eating plants though some are more damaging than others.

Just to be on the safe side I would do them as species-only.

you can keep small top dwelling fish, but nothing that stays near the bottom. i have my blue crayfish with a bunch of cloud minnows, and small rasboras.

he used to be in a feeder tank, and he would eat his fair share of feeders himself!

I've had crayfish in the past and they can get a little picky about the water. I had one that I feed reptomin right out of my hand. I love them, but seem to have bad luck with them when it comes to shedding time. Also they like to creep up on fish during the night and ambush them

So I would have to have another tank for red claw crabs?

How many gallons would a lobster be happy in?

I was thinking of getting platties or some mollies to go in them on my first ideas.

Hmm would be a bit lonely with 1 of them on it's own in a tank....wouldn't it :/
Not if it's a solitary animal, which crays most often are. They're like male Bettas or dwarf puffers. Extremely territorial and unaccomidating to others of their kind and sometimes, of anything else.

yes, if you did not they would fight to the death

if it is the same crayfish as the links provided by teelie (i know of 2 others that go by same common name), then a 10gal (US) should be fine. i have mine in a 25gal(US). i have found the smaller the tank, the more anxious they are to get out... so make sure there is no way for him to climb out

you just never know what will last... if those fish stay near the top they wil be fine... unless you have wood or plants the crayfish can climb. they will often climb up these things, and wait till a fish goes just beneath them, and bam, crayfish food.

i only keep small fish with mine, he hasnt eaten any yet...
