just a follow up. the lfs had a sale on blue lobsters. I bought one for 9.99 can. It is so blue and when i drop shrimp pellets in he grabs them and nibbles, it looks do funny :)
 You got one for $10 CAD! WOW! VERY COOL! What size aquarium have you got him in now? Can you tell me once in a while what his behaviour is like with other fish? Aren't they pretty those guys? I love watching them eat... how they shovel it all into their mouths ha ha :)

ya totally bp. hes in my 20 gallon so far he hasnt' attacked any fish. I broke a small plant pot in half and made it like a little cave. When he went in it he started building a wall in front of it he built for hours  ill keep you posted on behavior and everything.

Hi,

I kept red claw crabs for about a year. They stayed about 3" wide when i got rid of them. The fish shop told me the didnt need to come ot of the water but they used to climb up the filter tube and spend most of the day out of water. Then when i opened the lid to feed the fish, they would go down and wait for some food. Between the pair, they finished off half of my guppies!! I suppose guppies arnt the fastest fish and you cant scare them off. The others were ok.

But they can climb up anything and the will escape if you dont block every hole up. I onced opened the lid and one of the crabs came shooting stright at me. Little git nearly put me in hospital with heart failure :look: :-(

for starters your lobster should be in water that is 72 degrees, anything warmer will kill it. It will eat anything it can catch, and they seem to like to hunt at night especially. I have never heard of any long term success stories of lobsters and fish living together. I have mine in his own 12 gallon eclipse and he is quite happy. He has a snail as a *roomate* and they seem to have developed some sort of bond. The lobster frequently rides the snails back around the tank flexing his big lobster claws.

I feed mine shrimp pellets and sinking wafers. It works out perfect because the snail eats the leftovers. He also enjoys an occasional cucumber slice, tuna chunk, and frozen fish food. I recommend getting yours a coconut shell (available in the reptile section) because it is the perfect hide out for your blue crayfish. Id also recommend using sand as your substrate because they really like to dig, they also like to climb things.

heres a pic of my tank so you can get an idea. crayfish are quite active so a species tank isnt boring at all.

bianca i think we have conflicting info. I have been to several websites nd lfs and they say that most lobsters and crabs are comfortable at water temps from 65 -82. So far its been almost two weeks and there has been no aggression shown towards other fish even at night. P.S wicked tank nice sand!!!!!

ok i had a male fiddler crab before and yea they do get out and go off on little tours of the house. my terrapin managed to make a pretty convincing ornament on the windowsill after having jumped the tank once. best to make shure you have the tank sealed up they get thru the holes made for the cables and head for a good sunbathing spot. there was a thread about making an island for them somewhere. i think they would be just as happy on polystyreneas anything else. just somewhere they can chill out under the light without a playfull cat fish or shark nudging them into a corner.

edit : you know how i like to edit thease posts i think i mentioned it in the other threads but i just got two fiddler crabs both female some one had decided they didnt want them and had returned them to the shop and i had decided i had a big enough tank to house them. one of them has grown quite large. im going to look for some more suitable food for them perhaps some carnivore tablets. at the moment i saw them eating the alge tablet that was down to the siamese alge eater.

A few weeks ago my little blue crayfish called Blues Cousin got out of the tank... The lid was closed. I did hear a sound of something banging but I didnt pay any attention as I also have 2 cats in the house. A few minutes later I noticed that one of the cats was snooping around behind the TV stand which is a place my cats dont go to... it's full of wires and such. I called him out and he left. A few minutes after I saw him again still in the same place behind the TV. I called him again and he left. A few minutes afterwards I saw him right at the edge of the couch trying to sniff something. I then turned on the light to see to my complete astonishment the little Blues Cousin trying to fight off the cat :) I chased the cat away and went to get the crayfish. By the time I got there he was under the couch so I had to move it away and finally I caught him... Luckily the cat noticed him otherwise I would probbably have stepped on him... Now I keep a weight on top of the lid.

my crab seems to be verry usefull at keeping the bottom of the tank clean and he looks like a cartoon well you did say any info. oh yea and he hides all daycrabs i think someone allready did that link...

My crab is hangin' in there. She doesn't have heat or a light, so I hope y'all don't report me to the Crab Abuse Hotline, but I feed her and keep her water clean and salty (instant ocean) and I built her a tower of flat rocks to climb out of the water if she takes a notion. She also has an air stone.

After I get my new 29 gallon set up (going to IKEA this weekend to buy a cabinet to put it on :hyper: and cycled I will be moving "Speedy" the krib and his pals the cherry barbs into their new digs and changing the ten gallon to a sand and sea deal for Crabby -- maybe get her a man.
