i have got a juwel rekord 96 that holds 96 litres. would like to get some kind of loach thats similar to clown loach obviously i cant have these as they get too big!any ideas?

zebra is ur best bet or you could go with dwarf or queen loaches both r peaceful. Unlike my yoyo .

what substrate is best for loaches? i have got a fine slate substrate kinda like gravel

small non sharp gravel is nice and sand is the best but downside is hard to clean .

sand is definately the way to go for loaches, as they love to dig and search for food and some loaches like to bury themselves...

Well thats just up to you, I kept clown loach from a friend of mine with yoyo inside a 20g which they seem happy atm altho fighting. But being a loach lover I would say get one or two of the queen/zebra should be fine as they r funny to observe. And the gravel doesn't have tp be sand. Sand yes is probably the best but I dont use sand either on my loaches tank. Small round gravel also works wonder for queen/zebra already.
